CILICE ORCHESTRA … how it all started

I was thrilled to be asked by MEERTONEN festival to write music for a special event and perform with my band CILICE in a collaboration with other jazz musicians.
Awesome! I’ll write anything that comes to mind, no compromises. It’s gonna be some wild freaky instrumental madness for sure. I rearranged some CILICE tracks I had allready written and added some new flavours to the mix, such as horns and electronics.
The reactions we got from the audience were overwelming during our show at MEERTONEN festival. Experimental contemporary instrumental djent jazz metal? Whatever you want to call it … The people really dig it, wow! It was clear to all of us, we have to record this beast! It’s one of a kind.
I realised Immediately I wanted real strings on the tracks and started composing while continuing my work on the other arrangements. We recorded all guitars, bass and drums hereby completing the tracks of our band. I invited some great musicians I know, active in Jazz, World and Klezmer music, for some additional recording sessions at Warning Studios.
It was a blast to see how everything came together so well. All participants have done such a great job. Everywhere put a lot of effort, hard work, patience and dedication into the project.
CILICE ORCHESTRA became a fact, a new chapter in the Sonic Sound Landscape, one I’m really proud of. I am so thankful to everyone who believen in me and supporter me to help to make this all possible.

CILICE ORCHESTRA … mijn verhaal
Ik voelde me vereerd toen stichting MEERTONEN mij vroeg muziek te schrijven voor een speciaal festival en dit dan uit te voeren met mijn band CILICE, dit in samenwerking met jazz muzikanten.
Te gek! Ik krijg de mogelijkheid aangereikt om zonder enig compromis de muziek te schrijven. Ik weet dan al dat ik heftige arrangementen ga schrijven. Ik her arrangeer enkele nog niet uitgebrachte CILICE tracks en schrijf er blazers en sequence partijen bij.
De reacties van het publiek op ons optreden op het MEERTONEN festival was overdonderend. Experimentele contemporary instrumentale jazz djent metal? You name it… het publiek snapt het, wauw! Het werd ons duidelijk, dit moeten we vastleggen. We hebben iets speciaals te pakken.
Ik realiseer me onmiddellijk dat ik er echte strijkers bij wil hebben en ben gelijk gaan componeren, ondertussen bleef ik aan de arrangementen werken. In onze eigen studios nemen we de drums en gitaren op. Fantastische muzikanten die ik ken uit de Jazz, World en Klezmer scene nodig ik daarna uit voor opnamen sessies in de Warning Studios.
Hoe mooi is het dan om te zien dat alles zo gemakkelijk samen komt. Werkelijk iedereen ‘gave his best shot’. Hard werken, geduld en toewijding is wat dit opnamen proces heeft doen slagen.
CILICE ORCHESTRA is een feit, een nieuw hoofdstuk in de Sonic Sound Landscape, iets waar ik heel trots op ben. Ik ben iedereen zo dankbaar die me geholpen hebben om dit neer te zetten.
